ATMs, CDMs across Oman being upgraded for new OMR50 note

Muscat: ATMs and CDMs in Oman are being upgraded in collaboration with the Central Bank of Oman to accommodate the new OMR50 notes that have been recently announced.
The note was announced to honour 50 years of Oman’s Blessed Renaissance, and to pay tribute to the legacy of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Bin Taimur, the founder of modern Oman, whose accomplishments placed the Sultanate on the world map.
The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has issued a new OMR50 banknote in its sixth series, which will begin circulating as legal tender this month. CBO will also issue under its sixth series of new banknotes all other denominations currently in circulation as a legal tender during the last quarter of 2020. These denominations include denominations for OMR20, OMR10, OMR5 and OMR1, as well as 500 baisa and 100 baisa notes.
The new 50 rial banknote measures 76mm by 173mm, is green in colour, and has the year of issuance in both the Islamic and Gregorian calendars (1441 AH, 2020 AD). On the front of the new note is a portrait of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Bin Taimur, along with the dates of the years of his reign – 1970 to 2020.
Also accompanying it is the façade of the CBO headquarters, and signature of the Deputy Chairman of the bank’s board of governors. On the other side of the note are three buildings: the Council of Oman, the Supreme Court, and the Ministry of Finance.
A number of security features have been incorporated into the note. These include, on its front, a golden security patch window on the right side of the banknote depicting: the main entrance the Central Bank of Oman building, CBO’s name in both Arabic and English, the numeral 50 in Arabic, the numeral 50, Laser-engraved in English, revealed under any light source, and a blue-inked window revealed under any light source.
It also includes a shiny, multicoloured security patch on the left side in the form of the numeral 50, depicting moving elements of colour shifting gradually from green to gold when the banknote is tilted, three watermarks on the left side of the banknote, which include a portrait of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Bin Taimur and the numeral 50 printed in Arabic twice, both revealed under any light source.
The note features an ornamental pattern in seven repetitions with intaglio printing on the left and right sides, which aids the blind and the visually impaired to recognise the value of the denomination upon touching the banknote, and the printing of the coloured Khanjar (dagger) on the back of the note completes the image of the white Khanjar on the front side of the note when viewed against the light.
Security features on the back of the note include a shiny, multicoloured, and magnetic security thread, parts of which are visible while others are intertwined within the banknote on the right side, shiny ink inspired by the belt of the Omani Khanjar, depicted in yellow and green on the middle of the banknote, and the centre depicts the numeral 50 printed in English.
Additionally, the note features a reflection of the watermark image depicted on the front design of the banknote with the same characteristics, an identical match for the golden security patch depicted on the front design of the banknote on the left side, and the printing of the coloured Khanjar on the back of the note completes the image of the white Khanjar on the front side of the note when viewed against the light.
