71 per cent of new COVID-19 in Oman past week were citizens

Muscat: Figures released by the Ministry of Health show that Omanis constituted 71 per cent of all new COVID-19 cases reported in the country in the past week.
A total of 8,927 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported during the last seven days, of which 6,369 (71.3 percent) were Omanis, and the remaining 2,558 were expatriates.
The highest number of tests among Omanis that came back positive for the disease was on 6 July, when 1,057 more citizens were found to have the disease.
On that day, the number of expats who tested positive was less than half, at just 500. The day on which the rate of infection among expats was the highest was 3 July, with the number of Omanis who tested positive for COVID-19 on that day standing at 839.
Similarly, the lowest number of Omanis who tested positive for the disease was on 5 July, when 799 more cases were discovered among citizens. On that day, 273 non-Omanis were also found to be COVID positive.
On 4 July, only 208 expats tested positive for the disease – the lowest occurrence among foreign nationals over the past week, compared to 969 Omanis on that day.
63 per cent of all patients suffering from COVID-19 in Oman have recovered from the disease, according to updates from the Ministry of Health.
Figures released by the ministry show that 31,000 people have, as of 7 July, successfully recovered, with the total number of reported cases in the country standing at 48,997.
