COVID-19 infection among Omanis nearly same as among expats

Muscat: The rate of infection among Omanis is now nearly the same as it is among expats, according to figures released by the government.
There are, according to the Tarassud COVID-19 monitoring app of the Ministry of Health, a total of 47,735 confirmed cases of the disease so far reported in the Sultanate.
Of these, 23,463, or 49.15 percent of those who have the disease are Omani. The remaining 24,272 (50.8 per cent) are foreign nationals in the country. Inclusive of both Omanis and expatriates, the total number of people who still have the disease is about 18,371, while 29,146 people have recovered from it.
Daily updates from the Ministry of Health show that the number of infections among Omanis has been rising over the last few days: for example, on July 6, only 500 new cases were reported among non-Omanis, while 1,057 Omanis tested positive for the disease.
Similarly, on the previous day, July 5, 799 Omanis tested positive, compared to just 273 foreigners. Over the weekend, on July 4, 969 tests conducted among Omanis came back positive, as opposed to just 208 among expats. On Friday, 839 Omanis tested positive for COVID-19, compared to just 535 non-Omanis.
