Supreme Committee extends lockdown in Dhofar, Masirah

Muscat: The Supreme Committee has decided to extend the lockdown of Dhofar Governorate and Wilayat Masirah till July 17.
The committee also decided to continue the implementation of the facilitation package to support the private sector and its workforce that was announced in April until the end of September 2020.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic held at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior.
The meeting was aimed at following up Covid-19 developments and procedures to avoid its spread and alleviate its different impacts.
The Supreme Committee studied a report about epidemiological data from tourism sites that were shut down as part of precautionary measures endorsed earlier by the Committee to curb the spread of the disease.
The Committee decided to maintain the lockdown of Dhofar Governorate and Wilayat of Masirah till Friday, 17 July 2020. It also decided to keep up a package of incentives to support private sector establishments and manpower—the incentives announced in April—and maintain them till the end of September 2020.
The Committee followed up, with great concern, the epidemiological indicators of Covid-19 that point to a spate of new cases of infection, particularly among citizens, a considerable rise in intensive care cases and a high rate of mortality.
The Committee also expressed anxiety about the outcome of investigation operations, which indicated a lack of commitment, among some people, to the precautionary measures meant to prevent infection with the disease.
The Supreme Committee thereby urges all to stick to social distancing, wear face masks, keep washing hands and abide by other precautionary measures.
In particular, the Committee called upon all members of the public to shoulder their personal and collective responsibilities to protect the family and community from the pandemic.
It also urged all public and private establishments to maintain a social distancing environment, monitor the compliance of their respective employees and beneficiaries and expose the offenders, so that they could be submitted to prescribed legal procedures.
