International drug gang arrested in Oman

Muscat: In two separate operations, the Royal Oman Police (ROP), has busted an international smuggling network and seized a large amount of drugs.

A statement issued by the ROP said, “The Royal Oman Police thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of drugs and psychotropic substances into the Sultanate, carried out by two international gangs. The General Department for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances arrested, on Wednesday night, members of an international smuggling network consisting of three accused, including a citizen, in possession of 40 molds of hashish, 1,029 tablets of psychotropic substances, 2.5 kilograms of heroin, and half a kilogram of opium, they entered into the Sultanate by sea.”

The statement also confirmed, “The officers also managed, in the early hours of Thursday dawn, to seize 8 kilograms of heroin and an amount of the crystal drug in possession of an Asian national who participated with an international gang to enter these substances to the Sultanate. Legal measures are being taken against the four accused.”

The ROP appreciated the efforts made by citizens and residents in the fight against drugs through their cooperation with the police and informing authorities about any actions carried out by drug and psychotropic drug dealers by calling the hotline (1444) or informing the nearest police station.
