Younis Khan appointed Pakistan batting coach for England tour

Karachi: Younis Khan, the first and only Pakistan batsman with over 10,000 Test runs, has been appointed as their batting coach for their upcoming tour of England.
In addition to Younis, former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed will also join the touring party as the spin bowling coach.
In a career spanning over 17 years, Younis stacked up 10,099 runs at an average of 52 in 118 Tests and is the only batsman with the distinction of making Test hundreds in 11 countries. Younis was sublime in English conditions, making 810 runs there at an average of 50.62 from nine Tests.
Younis, who retired from international cricket in 2017, is delighted to be back in the fray. "For me, there has never been a bigger honour and a better feeling than to represent my country and I feel privileged to have been again offered the opportunity to serve it for a challenging but exciting tour of England.
"I have never been shy of sharing my experiences and knowledge, and I think this particular tour provides me with an ideal opportunity where I can spend post-training time with the players to engage with them on batting techniques, bowler assessments, mental toughness exercises besides talking them through with scenario planning."
Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq, who forged many a big partnership with Younis in their playing days, shared in the excitement. "I welcome Younis Khan and look forward to reuniting with him in Pakistan colours as our cricket careers have almost run concurrently. We know each other better than most think as we have worked hand in glove in the past decade to contribute in some of Pakistan’s most historic and memorable Test wins."
The coaching staff, which also features bowling coach Waqar Younis, will also benefit from the presence of Mushtaq, the former leg-spinner who played 52 Tests and 144 ODIs for Pakistan, and who has since gone on to hold coaching jobs with international teams like England and West Indies.
"Mushtaq Ahmed is loaded with the experience of helping elite cricketers from different countries and is widely regarded as a mentor. Mushtaq is always involved in the game and this attitude will further help us in our pre-series preparations and enhance our prospects in the series," added Misbah.
Dates for the proposed tour are yet to be confirmed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, but according to the release issued by Pakistan Cricket Board, the three Tests and as many T20Is are likely to be held in August and September.
