Mid-day breaks for workers begin in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower has banned work at construction sites during the afternoon hours due to high temperatures.
In a statement issued, the Ministry of Manpower said: "The Ministry of Manpower has decided to prohibit work at construction sites or open places with high temperatures in the afternoon hours from 12:30 pm until 3:30 pm, during the months of June, July and August, in order to preserve the health and safety of workers in these places."
The mid-day break is announced every year in accordance with Article 16 of the Oman Labour Law for occupational safety and health regulations, which states that workers must not work at construction sites or in open and elevated areas from 12:30pm to 3:30pm during June, July and August.
“This ministerial decision was put in place to protect workers from the scorching heat during the summer where the temperature is often crossing 45 degrees,” an official said.
