Tropical depression expected to weaken over Oman

Muscat: Weather predictions expect a gradual decline in the intensity of the tropical depression over Dhofar governorate from today evening, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said.

PACA said in alert number six, "The latest weather chart and the analysis of the National Center for Multi Hazards Early Warning Centre indicate that the tropical depression located over the Republic of Yemen near western parts of Dhofar governorate, has an estimated surface wind speed around the centre between 15 and 23 knots."

PACA pointed out, "Heavy thundershowers are expected to continue over Dhofar governorate and are likely to concentrate over the western parts and surrounding desert of the governorate. Rainfall of approximately 100-200 mm is predicted during next 24 hours and will be associated with fresh, strong winds. Flooding expected over low coastal areas and an increase in wadis flow with reduction in horizontal visibility is forecast."

"Sea conditions will continue to be rough along the governorates of Dhofar (wave height of 3-4metres) and along AlWusta and South Al Sharqiyah (2 metres)."

"PACA advises the public to take precautions and stay away from low lying areas, avoid crossing wadis and avoid venturing into the sea," the statement added.
