Muscat: Oman's Minister of Transport has said that Omani ports should be promoted as trade hubs to other countries to help boost business and provide greater economic return.
He confirmed that Omani ports have reached a high degree of efficiency, and that strong ties with countries around the world had proven successful
"We must build on those national gains that have been achieved and promote more of those ports," said Dr Ahmed Al Futaisi.
"We must be heard at a global level, as there are three deep ports with international specifications that are located in the Sultanate of Oman dedicated to serving the world and serving a large segment of the countries surrounding us, and this should be used and promoted," added the minister.
He went on to say that efforts to bring more trade to Omani ports had resulted in an increase in cargo shipments to them.
"In the Sultanate, the percentage of cargo and container handling in the ports increased by at least 23 percent during the first third of this year, compared to the same period in 2019," he added.
