Ministry salutes nurses’ fight against COVID-19

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Health has thanked the nurses and midwives in the country for their help in the fight against COVID-19, on the occasion of International Nurses’ Day.
The ministry acknowledged the important role nurses has played in taking care of patients during these crucial times.
Dr Jamal Al Khaduri, the Director General of Nursing Affairs at the Ministry of Health said, “Nursing is a noble profession and is widely recognised as one of those fields that combines scientific knowledge and medical expertise with a sense of compassion in providing healthcare services to patients.”
“The nursing profession in Oman is now modernised and leads the healthcare system in providing the best attainable quality of care from highly qualified professionals who are both present locally and come from abroad, are qualified by accredited educational establishments,” he added.
According to the most recent data released by the Ministry of Health, more than 20,000 nurses are currently employed across different health institutions in the Sultanate, with the profession recording an Omanisation rate of with 64 per cent in those institutions run by the ministry.
Al Khaduri said: “Currently there are 20267 nurses, of which 14,433 practice in healthcare institutions under the Ministry of Health. The other government institutions have 1,762 nurses and the private sector has 4,072 nurses.”
He stressed: “Nurses in Oman are always on the front line of the healthcare system. They are currently playing a vital role in the combat against COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, nurses have devoted a lot of time and efforts in providing care to patients and the community at large.”
“In the occasion of this important day, we offer a memorable salute to all nurses and midwives in the country for the tremendous job they do,” added Al Khaduri “Also, our thanks to the World Health Organization for marking this occasion worldwide. Yes, nurses deserve this celebration in recognition of their impact on the community in which they live and work.”
