Pakistan Embassy, PSC provide food packets to over 5,500 community members

Muscat: The Embassy of Pakistan in Oman, Pakistan Social Club (PSC) and community philanthropists have teamed together and provided food assistance to more than 5500 Pakistanis living in the isolated wilayat Muttrah.
The governing bodies in the Sultanate have taken strict measures to curb the spread of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) and have isolated wilayat Muttrah due to the potential spread of the virus.
In this regard, the Embassy along with the PSC and the volunteers, took it upon themselves to be at the disposal of the community members living in wilayat Muttrah.
Talking exclusively to the Times of Oman, His Excellency KK Ahsan Wagan, Ambassador of Pakistan in Oman said that this initiative began last week and has only proven to be successful with the help of the government of Oman, and the community members.
“I am extremely thankful for the everlasting support provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Supreme Committee. Also, the Ministry of Health for ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens and residents in the country.
“We, the Embassy, in coordination with the PSC have launched an initiative to provide food assistance to Pakistani families locked down in Muscat and surrounding areas. We have managed to prepare and distribute some food packets containing essentials including flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, pulses, dry milk, tea, etc, at the doorsteps of the community members in need,” Wagan said.
He added that “As per the permission given by the ROP, as of April 12, the volunteers involved in this initiative have successfully managed to distribute packets to more than 5500 community members in wilayat Muttrah. We would like to thank all the donors and volunteers who came forward to be a part of this drive.”
The ambassador continued by saying that both community volunteers and donors played a huge role in this initiative. “It started with the distribution of 1500 packets initially but with the dedication rendered by the Pakistani philanthropists, business leaders and community members, we strive to do more each day. I gratefully acknowledge their contribution towards this cause in such a critical time,” Wagan said.
The ambassador said that they will continue to provide food assistance in this hour of need. “Pakistanis, who know of fellow community members who might be in need of this help, can get in touch with the Embassy so that the assistance is reached to them. Together we can.”
Wagan has also been continuously advising community members to strictly follow the guidelines provided by the Supreme Committee and other government agencies in containing this global pandemic, and to not step out unless it is absolutely necessary.
