Muscat: With daily-wage workers out of jobs in Pakistan due to the strict measures taken to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the government has begin to employ many of them for the massive 10 Billion Tree Campaign.
This was announced by Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, on Saturday.
He wrote on his official Twitter handle while sharing a video of the workers that: "Pakistan innovates in the time of COVID19. With daily wagers out of jobs, our govt is employing a number of them as part of the massive 10 Billion Tree Campaign."
"Impacting lives and the planet positively at the same time," he added. "Every initiative counts."
Khan also said that the incentives announced by the central bank of Pakistan for the business community would prevent massive unemployment.
“The incentives are part of our policy of balancing between protecting people through a targeted lockdown and ensuring the vulnerable and needy are provided for,” Khan said.
He added that the poor were being provided with financial assistance through the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme and the government had also decided to give the relief of tax refunds to the business community, resume activities in the construction industry and keep the agricultural sector open.
“The State Bank of Pakistan's initiatives for businesses during the Covid-19 outbreak will help keep businesses afloat and prevent massive unemployment," Khan said.
Earlier Khan also announced the distribution of cash over the next two weeks among the needy and deserved people across the country.
He said that: "This is a great achievement of our govt to transfer cash to the needy in our society on such a massive scale across the country. Rs 144 billion will be distributed amongst 12 million families over the next two weeks."
