
Muscat: More than 80 per cent of Oman’s COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Governorate of Muscat, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
Of the 546 cases recorded in the country so far, 440 are in the capital region.
All three deaths relating to COVID-19 have also taken place in Muscat governorate.
The majority of recoveries have also taken place in the capital: 69 of 109 people who have recovered from the disease were reported to have been cured in Muscat.
Following Muscat, the governorate with the next highest rate of prevalence of COVID-19 is Dakhiliyah, which lies immediately south of the capital. 34 cases have been reported there, with 15 recoveries having taken place there.
A total of 26 people have caught the disease in South Al Batinah, with four having recovered, while another 22 are reported to be infected in North Al Batinah, although 17 of them have recovered.
Across the rest of Oman’s governorates, the incidence of COVID-19 is far lower.
In the westernmost Dhahirah governorate only three cases have been recorded so far, with two of those infected having recovered, while only two people have caught the disease in the Governorate of Buraimi.
Four people have so far contracted the disease in North Al Sharqiyah, while three cases have been reported in South Al Sharqiyah.
Two of those who have the disease are still receiving care, while the third has recovered.
No cases have so far been reported in the central Governorate of Al Wusta, but in the southern Dhofar region, nine people have been infected.
One has recovered, and the other eight continue to receive treatment. In Oman’s northern Governorate of Musandam, three cases have been reported so far, and all three patients continue to receive care.
