Muscat: A GCC trademarks system was approved by the Majlis A’Shura yesterday without any amendments.
The approval came at the 12th regular meeting of the second annual sitting (2016/2017) of the 8th term (2019/2025) held under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura.
During the meeting, Majlis A’Shura approved the GCC trademarks system as it is without making any amendments and referred it to the State Council.
It also referred to the State Council the report of the food and water security committee on the draft law for regularising the aflaj sites listed in the World Heritage List, after it has been unanimously approved. It also approved the report of the social, development and services committee on the communication sector which included a number of recommendations by the Committee.
During the session Majlis A’Shura was briefed on a number of double taxation avoidance and income tax evasion agreements with Slovakia and Malta and referred them to the Economic and Financial Committee for study. It also reviewed the draft of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and referred it to the Health and Environment Committee for study.
Meanwhile, the services and social development committee of the Majlis A’Shura discussed the proposal of social responsibility law project which is considered one of the most distinctive studies listed in its agenda for the second annual session.
The committee, through its study of the proposal of the social responsibility law project, aims to be acquainted with the actual application for the social responsibility programme by companies and to reach to the need for legislation or propose legislative alternatives which contributes in pushing development progress and bridge the legislative gap in this aspect.
