Second annual festival for Arabian camel races concludes in Oman

Adam: His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan patronised on Thursday over the closing ceremony of the 2nd annual festival for Arabian camel races at Al Bashayir race-track for camel races in the Wilayat of Adam in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah. The closing ceremony was attended by Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Head of the Organising Committee of the GCC Camel Races and Chairman of the Emirates Camel Racing Federation, as well as a number of ministers, honourable members of the State Council and the undersecretaries.
The results of the race came as follows: In the First Round allocated for ‘Al Haja’ej Abkar’, “Siba” owned by Mohammed bin Salim Al Wihibi came first.
In the second round allocated for ‘Laqaya Abkar’, “Al Bashayir” from Al Bashayir camels owned by Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said came first.
In the third round allocated for ‘Al Yida’a Abkar’, “Barzaman” owned by Mohammed bin Salim Al Wihibi came first.
In the fourth round allocated for ‘Thanaya Abkar’, “Barzaman” owned by Mohammed bin Salim Al Wihibi came first.
In the fifth round allocated for ‘Houl Abkar’, “Al Bashayir” from Al Bashayir camels owned by Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said came first.
In the excitement round, “Al Fayiza” owned by Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Dar’ei came first.
At the end of the race, Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan handed over keys of the vehicles to winners of the top places in the five rounds and the excitement
round.
Sayyid Asa’ad hailed the camel racing competitions as they are part of the Omani heritage. He noted that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said attaches great care to these competitions.
The Festival has been successful and was followed up and supported by all sectors of our society. This success was evidenced by the large number of camels from the Sultanate’s governorates and from other GCC States, which took place in the race and the
large number of fans who followed the races, he concluded.
