Students learn about challenges at UN session

Muscat: Students from Oman and the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) discussed world issues yesterday.
This came as part of the MoM’s statement on the topic, which said, “The Ministry’s Directorate-General of Technical Education took part in the 14th session of the Bahrain Universities Model United Nations between October 21 and 22.”
The Sultanate was represented by students from the higher technical college, who took part alongside local and external universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The statement added, “This programme is considered a simulation to the reality of what occurs in the United Nations.
“Students are given a chance to discuss the various challenges that the world currently faces, including national security, peace, economic and social development, and human rights.”
According to the model’s website, the last session was preceded by 10 training sessions and included 200 students from 20 countries who took part as delegates and administration staff.
“The programme aims to gather information and to encourage the youth to become interested in international topics and challenges, as well as the mentality of tolerance and acceptance of new ideas while conversing to reach solutions.”
When representing countries in this manner, students will take on the mentalities of different countries. The statement said, “The programme gives participants an opportunity to represent countries that have completely different values and cultures, which can encourage tolerance.”
