Muscat: Oman’s Saham Club were beaten 2-1 defeat by Nejmeh in an AFC Cup match in Beirut on Tuesday.
According to the news posted on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website, Nicholas Cofie scored 20 minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win for Nejmeh as the Lebanese side picked up their first win of the 2017 AFC Cup campaign.
Cofie curled the ball into the top corner as the Saham defence backed off to seal all three points for Jamal El Hajj’s side after Mohammad Al Ghassani had cancelled out Akram Moghrabi’s opening goal, which came on the stroke of half-time.
Moghrabi had given the home side the lead with a header only for Al Ghassani to volley home two minutes after the restart following Khamis Al Maawali’s long ball from inside his own half, and the win now means both clubs sit on three points after two rounds of matches in Group C.
In the West and ASEAN Zones, each group winner and the best second-placed club among the three groups (total four teams) will qualify for the zonal semifinals. A West Zone final will be held to determine the region’s representative for the AFC Cup final. There will also be inter-zone play-offs between the champions of the ASEAN, Central, South and East Zones. The winner of the inter-zone play-offs will then take on the West Zone representative in the final of the AFC Cup.
