India registers first death from COVID-19

Muscat: India on Thursday registered its first death from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

A 76-year-old man from the city of Kalaburagi in the state of Karnataka died due to complications from the disease. While he had died earlier in the week on 10th March, his test results were declared to be positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The man, unidentified, had visited Saudi Arabia in February and had returned on 29th February.

All precautionary measures like contact tracing and home quarantine have been initiated, the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.
