Oman Tennis: Younis Al Rawahi wins U-18 title at ISC tourney

Muscat: Oman’s top ranked junior player Younis bin Tufail Al Rawahi justified his top ranking when he clinched the top prize at the ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
Khalid bin Ali Al Aadi, Chairman of Oman Tennis Association (OTA) presided over the grand finals of the largest junior tennis tournament in the country. Also present at the finals were CM Sardar, Vice-Chairman of the Indian Social Club, OTA General Secretary Mundher Al Barwani, OTA Treasurer Siddiq Al Hashmi and OTA Executive Manager Salman Al Balushi.

In the all-Omani boys under-18 singles final, the top seed Younis Al Rawahi faced stiff resistance before overcoming No. 3 seed Zakariya Al Suleimani 7-5, 6-2.
Younis earned the first break of the match when he broke Zakariya in the fifth game and held for a 4-2 lead.
The spectators thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced game with both players displaying their brilliance on court.
Zakariya fought back and saved three set-points to level at 5-all. Younis upped his game, broke Zakariya at love and served out the first set.
Younis played with renewed confidence and seemed to do no wrong as Zakariya seemed to struggle agains the top seed who raced to a 5-1 lead in the second set. Zakariya held to stay in the match but could not avoid the inevitable as Younis powered to victory.
The other Omani players who excelled in the tournament are Muneer Al Rawahi, winner of the boys under-14 singles, Marwan Al Khanjari, winner of the boys under-12 singles, Aisha Al Suleimani, runner-up girls under-18 and Saffanah Al Riyami runner-up in girls under-14 singles.
At the presentation ceremony, the OTA Chairman congratulated the Omani players on their good showing at the tournament and lauded the Indian Social Club for their efforts to promote tennis in the country.
