Oman Tennis: Muneer lifts U-14 crown at ISC tourney

Muscat: Omani teenager Muneer bin Tufail Al Rawahi captured the boys under-14 singles crown at the ISC Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC). In a thrilling boys under-14 singles final, the No. 4 seeded Omani played with conviction and showed no signs of nerves when he was down. Muneer rallied from 0-4 down in the second to register a stunning 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over second seed Sanskar Dubey. In a tense encounter, with as many as six breaks of serve, it was even-steven at 6-games-all in the first set. Sanskar squandered a 5-4 lead as Muneer broke him to stay in the set. Sanskar held in the twelfth game to force the tie-breaker which Muneer won 7-5. Sanskar played with more maturity as he raced to a 4-0 lead in the second set when he had to take treatment for pain in his playing arm. Muneer took advantage of the situation, adopted defensive tactics and Sanskar lost his rhythm. Muneer troubled Sanskar with deep lobs and gradually reeled off the next six games on the trot to lift the title.
