Chairman of Indian School Board wins special jury award

Muscat: Dr Baby Sam Saamuel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman has won a special recognition at the recently concluded 7th annual GESS Education Awards.
The special award, “Judges’ commendation award” under the category “Teachers/Schools/Educational Professionals” was conferred in recognition of the various community initiatives rolled out by the Indian Schools in Oman under the aegis of the Board. These include initiatives such as YCIS (Young Communitarian of Indian Schools), a social volunteering wing, Here4U-Let’s Talk, a 24-7-365 tele-counseling service and Gift-a-Book, a scheme which promotes re-use of text books. The award was announced in a gala event held on February 26, 2020 at the H Hotel, Dubai.
The jury commended Dr Saamuel for the collaborative efforts by the group of schools, with common values and goals, and for offering community services through a wide network.“These commendable schemes encourage young students in Oman from the Indian School community to actively engage in activities which not only improve the environment, but also develop communities. It connects children with community, inculcating the values of social outreach, community service and self-less giving”, they added.
Dr Baby Sam Saamuel also presented these initiatives at a session during the GESS 2020 Conference, highlighting the need for community involvement in order to better and strengthen he educational system. Additionally, he also facilitated a workshop on “21st Century Teaching and Learning” for Ministry of Education, UAE during the three-day conference.

Dr Baby Sam Saamuel is a Director of the Board since 2016 and took up the mantle of the Board as Chairman in April 2018. As Chairman, he has brought about several initiatives, under the plan, Vision 2020 aimed at enhancing holistic education within the Indian Schooling system.
GESS Education Awards is an annual global event that honours the achievements of outstanding individuals and businesses in the field of education from around the world. This year, GESS 2020 presented 29 awards to individuals and businesses from 11 countries for their significant contributions to the arena of education.
