Health ministry issues clarification on availability of Panadol

Muscat: The Ministry of Health confirmed that the medicine known as Panadol is available in Oman but under different brand names.

The medicine, used for bringing down fever and reducing pain, is popularly sold under the brand name Panadol, but there are different brands available which carry the same substance, Paracetamol.

The Ministry said in a statement: “It has been circulated through various social media that the Panadol medicinal product that is used as a fever-reducing agent and a pain reliever is not available in private pharmacies due to the increase in demand, especially during the current winter period.”

“The Ministry would like to clarify that Panadol is the commercial name for the active substance known as paracetamol, which is available on the local market from a number of pharmaceutical companies and with different brand names, whether in the form of tablets, syrups, or suppositories and has the same use,” the statement added.

Also the Ministry confirms the availability of cold medicines and fever-reducers in the health institutions of the Ministry.
