New road to Muscat International Airport inaugurated

Muscat: A new dual carriageway connecting the Muscat International Airport with Muscat Expressway has been opened by the Muscat Municipality.
“The 4.7 km road features a number of signal crossings and has three roundabouts,” the Muscat Municipality said.
The road connects the new Muscat International Airport with the Muscat Expressway. It will ease traffic along the expressway and help it link with the Ghala Industrial Area and other centres in Al Irfan area.
The link road to Ghala starts at crossing number 8 on the Muscat Expressway and extends to the western part of Ghala Industrial Area, leading to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
The project comprises a three-lane road on each side of the Muscat Expressway. The three lanes turn into a four-lane road at the crossings and flyovers leading towards the airport. It becomes a five-lane road while exiting the airport building towards the Expressway. The road also has two intersections, one at the Ghala Industrial Area and the other near the Grand Mosque to ease the traffic flow towards the airport and the highway. As part of the project, the Muscat Municipality has established two crossings.
The first crossing serves the Ghala Industrial Area and the second was established at the Grand Mosque road to serve motorists moving towards the airport and Expressway. “The project also comprises a flyover to facilitate traffic from the Grand Mosque road to the Expressway without having to drive under the flyover,” a motorist said.
