Muscat: Shantannu Sriram bagged the under-10 singles title at the on-going ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club.
In a thrilling final, Shantannu played with confidence and did his basics right and did not let his supports down. Shantannu showed consistency in his ground strokes and made very few errors to script a brilliant 8-4 victory over Rohit Rajkumar. The two youngsters played positive tennis and went for their strokes. Shantannu earned the early break but Rohit broke back twice for a 3-2 lead. Shantannu played with more maturity and gained the upperhand as he broke in the seventh and ninth games and held for the crucial 7-3 lead. Rohit broke Shantannu again to stay in the match and saved four break points before Shantannu broke back to win the under-10 title.
J. Kaavya qualified for the final of the girls under-14 singles when she ousted Madhu Mithra 8-2 in the semifinal. In the final, Kaavya will take on the winner of the semifinal match between the Al Riyami sisters, Saffanah and Tanaal which was scheduled to have been played last evening.
