Muscat: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan, presided over the opening of the 25th edition of Muscat International Book Fair (MIBF) at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday.
The Minister of Information who is Chairman of the Main Committee of MIBF, Dr Abdulmoneim bin Mansour Al Hasani; a number of members of the Royal Family; Ministers, undersecretaries, advisors, mediapersons and invitees from within and outside the Sultanate were also present on the occasion.
During the ceremony, three Omani personalities who contributed to enrichment of the cultural arena were hnoured. They are Dr Amna Rabie in the field of theatrical studies; Photographer Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Hinai in the field of photography and Dr Wafa bint Salim Al Shamsi in the field of children literature.
On the conclusion of the ceremony, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan in the company of the attendees, toured various pavilions of Muscat International Book Fair (MIBF), which has seen the participation of the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Bait Al Zubair, Omani Society for Writers and Literati among other participations from within and outside the Sultanate.
The 25th edition of MIBF would see the participation of 946 publication houses from 32 countries, including 676 publication houses directly participating in the event and 270 publication houses through their agents, an increase of 64 participants and 184 pavilions compared to the last edition of MIBF.
During the press conference, the Minister of Information said that this edition of MIBF would see several participations and media coverage by 25 media institutions from Arab and international countries.
