Muscat: Only Omani nationals will be hired as water tanker drivers after the end of April 2020, the Ministry of Manpower has said.
The move is part of ongoing Omanisation efforts to provide more jobs for Omani citizens. The decision was made by the country’s Minister of Manpower, Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Manpower to managers of employment, general managers in various governorates, and the managers of manpower directorates said, “The Minister of Manpower has ordered the replacement of expat workers with citizens according to the Ministerial Decision No (2004/216).”
“Citizens can find these placements through the National Employment Centre,” statement added.
The latest move comes in the wake of the ministry requiring all future sales promoters, procurement representatives, and sales representatives hired in the country to be Omanis, while those expats that are hired under the visas that allow them to work in these sector will not have their visas renewed.
This decision was made on Sunday, February 2.
“The ministerial decision is clear and understandable, that after completion of the work permit licences, the expat who is working as a sales representative/sales promoter and purchase representative should leave Oman and their visas cannot be renewed,” said a Ministry of Manpower statement.
As part of its efforts to bring more jobs to Omanis, the country’s Ministry of Manpower instituted a temporary freeze on visas for expatriate workers across 87 sectors, and this was then extended in every six months, with more and more sectors being gradually included in the list of professions reserved for Omanis.
