Oman's ministry refutes rumours about birth spacing implants causing cancer

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Health refuted an online rumour alleging that a birth spacing method caused cancer.

In a notice, the authority said, “In response to what is being circulated via social media regarding alleged damage or cancer caused by the implant birth spacing method, a medical source at the Ministry of Health (MOH), Women & Child Health Department denies the circulated message and stressed the safety of this birth spacing method, confirming that this it is just like any other method that utilizes progesterone, such as injections and single-hormone pills.”

The source at the ministry reaffirmed that the rumours have no scientific basis.

The method was introduced to Oman based on detailed studies and the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). It is currently used in more than 100 countries around the world.
