Oman Air cancels nearly 700 flights

Muscat: The ongoing decision to ground all Boeing 737 MAX airplanes in Oman Air’s fleet has seen the national carrier cancel nearly 700 flights in February.

Cancellation of flights for this month began on February 1, and will run until the 29th of this month. Many of the routes affected have their final destinations in South Asia. The cancellations have impacted flights from Muscat to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Colombo and Kathmandu among others.

In the Arab world, some flights to Casablanca, Amman, Manama, Medina, Dubai and Salalah were cancelled, while flights to Oman Air’s European destinations such as Athens and Zurich were also affected.

A statement from Oman Air said, “We are rebooking guests on alternative / next available flights to their destinations. We advise all our guests who are due to travel during the same period to check the flight status or contact our call centre +96824531111.”

26 flights were cancelled on February 1, 2020, with a further 29 on February 2, and 28 on February 3. 22 flights scheduled for February 4 were also cancelled, while 18 flights apiece scheduled for February 5 and 6 were cancelled. 32 flights that were expected to take off on February 7 have also been halted, while another 23 that were listed for February 8 will not take off now.

On February 9, the ongoing decision by the country’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation to ground 737 MAX airplanes means 27 flights will not take off, while on the 10th, another 24 will be halted. 23 flights scheduled for February 11 will also be cancelled, and on the 12th, a further 18 will stay on the ground, with one less flight taking off the next day.

On February 14, 30 flights have been stopped, while 22 flights have been scrapped for February 15. 28 flights will not be taking off on the 16th, and on the 17th another 24 flights are likely to be grounded. 20 flights for the 18th have been cancelled, and another 22 for the 19th. 18 flights will not be taking off on February 20, while a further 30 flights will be halted on the 21st.

24 flights have been grounded for the 22nd, and another 29 on the 23rd. 25 flights will also be stopped on the 24th, and a further 24 on the 25th. On 26 February, 23 flights will be grounded, and Oman Air has also cancelled 19 flights on the 27th. 30 flights that were expected to take off on February 28 will now not do so, and on the 29th, with 2020 being a leap year, 25 flights have been stopped.
