589 workers found violating labour law in Oman

Muscat: Close to 600 workers were found violating the labour law, in the last week of January.
The weekly report of the joint inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower said that 589 workers including 450 commercial workers, 60 farm workers and 79 housemaids and their equivalents were found violating the labour law between January 22 to 28.

The inspectors caught 536 workers including 289 absconding workers, 244 astray workers and 3 with no documents.
The Governorate of Muscat witnessed the largest number of workers violating the law with 162, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 120.

The competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower are taking the legal procedures against them.
Manpower Ministry statistics also showed that 498 expatriate workers were deported for violating provisions of the Labour Law and ministerial decisions executing the law.
