Ministry issues statement on food preservation

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will implement a regulation starting next month to preserve exported foods from being damaged. The Ministry has announced that exporters and importers of agricultural products using the land border to cross must adhere to the Ministerial Decree No. 218/2018.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, “Agricultural products are not allowed to enter and exit through the land ports if they are not refrigerated. The decision will be implemented from February 1, 2020.”

“The expected results are reducing waste, increasing product quality, ensuring a longer life for the products, increasing competitiveness, and good price guarantee for the products.” Ministry added.

he Ministry said that an administrative fine of no more than OMR 1,000 will be imposed on anyone who violates any of the conditions mentioned in the second and third articles of the decision.
