Video: Oman's pink lakes are making a comeback

Muscat: The pink lakes in South Sharqiyah's Al Suwaih area have started getting their pink color back after months of drying up and being mixed with seawater.
The pink lakes were mixed with sea water as a result of high tides and rough waves during the summer months — in September only two small lakes remained pink Al Suwaih beach.

Nassir Al Ganboosi, a local from Al Suwaih said, "The pink lakes began to reappear in the village of Al Suwaih in Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, but it will take a few weeks to get the final colour."
"Marine organism which live in the lake, such as red worms, small fish and shellfish, start dying due to evaporation of water and decrease of oxygen level in the lake. They increase in salinity and algae called Dunaliella salina reproduce in the lakes, which give them their pink colour," Al Ganboosi added.
