Sayyid Fahd reviews bilateral ties with Canadian Senate speaker

Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers yesterday received George Furey, Speaker of the Canadian Senate who conveyed greetings of the Canadian leadership along with its best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan.
After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, Sayyid Fahd and the Speaker of the Canadian Senate reviewed the existing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and means of promoting them, in addition to reviewing the latest developments in the regional and international arenas.
Sayyid Fahd highlighted the effective role of the Council of Oman in the socio-economic development march being witnessed by the country, as well as the valued efforts of the Council and its contributions with the Government in preparing the future plans.
On his turn, the Speaker of the Canadian Senate expressed his pride and that of his accompanying delegation to visit Oman.
He highlighted the comprehensive accomplishments made in the Sultanate. He also hailed the role being played by the Sultanate at the foreign level. Sayyid Fahd asked the Speaker of the Canadian Senate to convey greetings of His Majesty the Sultan along with his best wishes to the Canadian leadership.
The meeting was attended by Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Al Fadh bin Mohammed bin Ahmed al Harthy, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers and Dennis Horak, Canadian Ambassador to Oman.
Meanwhile, Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’wali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura also received at the Majlis HQs yesterday George J. Furey, Speaker of the Senate of Canada and his accompanying delegation.
Al Ma’wali briefed the guest on Majlis Al Shura and its successive stages for more than three decades, pointing out to the progress enjoyed by the Majlis for its legislative and regulatory powers.
The meeting touched on the Omani-Canadian bilateral relations and means of enhancing them and was attended by Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Deputy Chairman of Majlis A’Shura and Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, Secretary General of the Majlis Al Shura.
