Education and heath conditions of Oman's children improve

Muscat: There has been an improvement in the education and heath conditions of the Sultanate's children who represent 42 per cent of the total population, according to the statistics of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The number of children aged 17 and below amounted to 2,006,651 in 2016 of whom 41 were in Muscat and North Al Batinah Governorates.
The health index showed that all children under one year were vaccinated in 2015. The crude birth rate (the number of children born in a year for each 1,000 of the population in the middle of the year) amounted to 34.1 and the death rate amounted to 2.9 for each 1,000 of the population. The infant death rate stood at 9.5 for each 1,000 of children born alive. The death rate for children below 5 years amounted to 10.1 per cent for every 1,000 children born alive in 2014 which percentage increased to 11. 5 % in 2015. 538 deaths of children aged 0-19 were registered in 2015.
In 2014, 80.7 per cent of children within the age group 36-59 months have received the participation of one adult at least in four activities to encourage them for learning and prepare them for school.
Children aged 17 and below who do not live with any of their parents amounted to 0. 6 per cent and that 3.5 of the children in the same age groups have lost both or one of their parents.
