Muscat: The Environment Society of Oman has invited runners who will be taking part in the Muscat Marathon to raise funds that will go towards protecting the Sultanate’s environment in future.

The fundraising is part of ESO’s Nature Oman initiative, which was launched to encourage members of the public to get involved in raising environmental awareness and funds for environmental causes. Nature Oman’s first initiative is fundraising through sporting events. Athletes enjoy the connection of fitness and the outdoors and can show their appreciation for the Sultanate by pledging to raise funds through their race.

Runners that are looking to raise funds for ESO and other worthy causes through the Muscat Marathon, can do so through the Charity Run, a five kilometre event that takes place on 18 January. To do this, runners are requested to reach out to their friends, families and other acquaintances to sponsor their participation in the Muscat Marathon, which will take place on 17 and 18 January, 2020.

To register, participants can additionally fill in a form that has been shared on ESO’s social media accounts. ESO has also released a sample piece of text that can be sent by prospective runners to their family and friends.

“In January 2020 I will be participating in the Muscat Marathon to raise funds for environmental conservation and awareness initiatives by the Environment Society of Oman,” reads the text sent out by ESO. “Proceeds will go towards conserving our beautiful Oman. I have pledged to raise ___ OMR, please help me reach this target by sponsoring me. All funds that I collect will be deposited to the ESO account after my race.”

Once completed, runners can either make a bank transfer to ESO, or go to the donations portal on, and contribute funds to the organisation. Those who wish to make a bank transfer need to mention the Environment Society of Oman as the beneficiary, and list Bank Muscat’s Madinat Qaboos branch as the beneficiary’s branch.

Donations need to be made to account number 0315-003960351-0036, mentioning Nature Oman as the purpose of the donation. Alternatively, funds can also be handed in at ESO’s office in the form of a cash payment at the Ajit Khimji Building, which is next to the KIMS Oman Hospital in Darsait.

“Did you know? By registering for the 5km run at the Muscat Marathon on 18th January 2020, 10 percent of the ticket fees will go towards ESO projects to help conserve our environment,” said a statement from ESO. “Let’s run for nature!”
