Kindergarten admissions for Omani private schools must be done online

Muscat: Parents seeking admission for their children into kindergarten sections in Omani private schools need to register online.

Children who are older than three years and two months of age can apply for admission for the KG1 term that begins on September 1, 2020, while children aged at least four years and two months are eligible for admission into the KG2 term, which also begins on the same day.

“Registration requests are submitted through the Oman educational portal, which can be done by entering the Ministry of Education’s website, www.moe.gov.om. The child must have a civil number if he is Omani, there will be a need for a resident card, in the case of non-Omani children,” said the Ministry in a statement.

“The student's age must not be less than three years and two months, if they wish to be part of the KG1 class from September 1, 2020,” added the ministry. “They must be born on or before June 30, 2017. No student who was born after this date will be accepted, even if they were born just a day after this date. A student's age must also be more than four years and two months for the KG2 class which begins on September 1, 2020, that is he or she must be born on or before June 30, 2016.”

In addition, students who are between the ages of five years and two months, and seven years and two months, are allowed to seek admission into Grade I, but they must be born on or before 30 June, 2015, with that being the cut-off date of birth for prospective students.

Registration for the new school term began on Sunday, January 5, and will end on Thursday, October 8, 2020. After this, the Ministry of Education will not be able to take in any new registration requests.

“After registering on the educational portal, the guardians and parents of these children will review the details of the private school assigned to his child, and will accompany the child to this school, to ensure he fits in to that school, and will assess his ability to learn. Parents and guardians are expected to bring the following documents: two recent photographs of the child, the child’s medical record, and a medical report authenticated by an accredited health institution, regarding chronic diseases or disabilities from which the child suffers, if any,” the Ministry explained.

“The child undergoes medical checks, according to the facilities available in its respective governorate, and in the manner deemed appropriate, provided that coordination is carried out between the teams from the directorate and the specialists of the Directorate General of Health Services in the governorate, in terms of setting the dates of the medical examinations,” added the Ministry.
