Muscat: More than a thousand trees will be planted in Duqm to mark Oman Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on January 8.
The tree planting exercise has been organised by the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD), in collaboration with the Port of Duqm, and other companies operating in the special economic zone in the Wusta governorate.
“Activities for Oman Environment Day are going on in collaboration with the Port of Duqm, and other companies operating in the special economic zone in Duqm, through planting 600 Casuarina trees in the Middle Industries Zone at the Port of Duqm. This initiative reflects SEZAD’s role in preserving the environment,” said a statement from the special economic zone authority.
In addition, participating alongside members of the local communities, SEZAD has also organised the planting of 430 trees at Duqm Public Park.
The authority’s statement said, “As part of SEZAD’s observation of Oman Environment Day, a number of leisure and awareness activities were organised, in addition to planting 430 trees in Duqm Public Park, with the participation of the community and the Omani Women’s Association.”
