Muscat: There has been a 4.2 per cent increase in production of electricity in the Sultanate’s through the end of October 2016.
The power production increased to more than 29,006 gigawatt (GW) compared to the same period in 2015.
Similarly, water production grew to exceed 314 million cubic metres, with an increase of 12.6 per cent as of the end of October 2016, compared with the same period in 2015, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Sultanate’s total electricity production until the end of October 2016 stood at 29,614.4 GW per hour, compared to 28,426.5 GW per hour in the corresponding period of 2015.
The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of A’Dhahirah recorded the highest rate of usage at the governorates level, as electricity production in these governorates stood at 15,767.1 GW per hour, representing an increase of 8.7 per cent, compared to 14,507.4 GW per hour in the same period in 2015.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat reached 3,429.5 GW per hour, with a decline of 29.2 per cent compared to the production recorded during the same period in 2015, which reached 4,845.8 GW per hour.
Total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar reached 2,856.4 GW per hour at the end of October 2016, with an increase of 1.7 per cent, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 2,809.4 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Musandam reached 323.6 GW per hour, with an increased rate of 1.7 per cent, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, at 318.2 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah reached 1,090.7 GW per hour, with a decrease of 0.5 per cent compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which was 1,096.4 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Al Wusta reached 312.1 GW per hour, with a growth of 23 percent, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which was 253.8 GW per hour.
The Governorates of North and South A’Sharqiyah recorded an increase in the rate of production, compared to the corresponding period in 2015. The increased rate stood at 27 per cent, as the total production in the two governorates stood at 5,835.1 GW per hour in October 2016, compared to 4,595.6 GW per hour during the corresponding period in 2015.
The net of the Sultanate’s electricity production until the end of October 2016 reached 29,212.3 GW per hour, compared to the figures recorded during the same period of 2015, which stood at 28,088.5 GW per hour, with an increased rate of 4 per cent.
This production includes power purchased by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
NCSI statistics indicated that the largest quantity of net electricity production was recorded in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah.
The net production recorded in these governorates at the end of October 2016 reached 15,610.6 GW per hour, compared to the net production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 14,404.3 GW per hour, with an increased rate of 8.4 per cent.
