Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) Day is celebrated every year on January 5. This is the day for celebrating the achievements and development march, and renewal of loyalty and sincerity for the royal care accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
ROP personnel undertake their duties and responsibilities based on the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The ROP works on the royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to safeguard and preserve the security and stability of the country.
During the past years, Royal Oman Police has registered several achievements with the completion of a number of projects in all the governorates of the Sultanate. Such projects include the opening of new buildings for ROP services, besides opening a number of police stations.
The Special Task Force of the police has received the attention and care of ROP headquarters in light of the role it plays in the security in all parts of the Sultanate. The Special Task Police headquarters is provided with modern equipment and supplies to offer their services in the various governorates.
The Royal Oman Police has succeeded in offering quality and integrated online services for both citizens and residents, following the establishment of a direct link between the database of the civil status department and the private and government institutions. This has helped in easing of procedures and acceleration of clearance of transactions for citizens and residents.
To provide safe traffic environment, ROP has recently launched an online security supervision of equipment and hazardous materials on roads. To ensure safe transport of heavy equipment and hazardous materials, ROP has made available such service for the private sector on request, which guarantees smooth transport of equipment and ensures safety on roads.
ROP has also made available online issuance of visa to facilitate payment of fees by linking this system with the related establishments as per the requirements of International Civil Aviation Organisation and the directives of World Tourism Organisation.
ROP has also activated online authentication in order to facilitate services and procedures offered to the public within the project of Oman Digital Society . This online authentication enables citizens to clear their transactions with confidentiality and credibility which also ensures protection of all personal information. ROP also sends SMS on expiry of registration of vehicles, passports and identity cards besides online enquiry on the status of visa.
The traffic statistics for the sixth year in row indicates a reduction of deaths in traffic accidents, due to the awareness campaign launched by ROP to disseminate information among all sectors of the community through media, lectures and other means, besides increasing radars to monitor traffic.
ROP accords due care for training at Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, ROP personnel receive basic training upon joining the service at ROP. ROP Directorate General of Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances also accords due attention to combating drugs and narcotics in cooperation with the various formations of Royal Oman Police, where a number of attempts for smuggling such substances have been foiled.
ROP Cavalry Unit has seen remarkable developments in the various fields of training. ROP Cavalry Unit has also seen the establishment of the new building. ROP communicates with the public through the various Radio and TV programmes and magazines. ROP has also organised a number of campaigns on cyber crimes in partnership with Bank Muscat and other private sector entities.
