State Council, Majlis Al Shura discuss  Omani economy at joint meeting

Muscat: A joint meeting of the State Council and the Majlis Al Shura was held at the Council of Oman building yesterday.
The first meeting of the 2nd annual sitting of the 6th term was held under the chairs of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council and Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis Al Shura.
The two offices discussed a range of issues that contribute to the development of the joint coordination between the two councils in order to ensure the integration of roles to serve the public interest.
They also stressed the importance of holding continuous regular meetings between the two councils with the ministers concerned with the economic aspect to learn about the efforts and measures taken by the Government in this area.
It will help in the integration of efforts and opinions designed to overcome the challenges facing the Omani economy, so that the process of development continues with firm steps to achieve the desired goals.
Further, the two offices touched on the membership of the Council of Oman in the regional, Arab and international parliamentary organisations and coordination towards the same so as to enhance the presence of the Sultanate in the parliamentary forums at all levels.
They also highlighted the importance of taking into account the coordination of provisions on mechanisms of joint action between the two councils in their own internal regulations, in addition to discussing a joint mechanism for protocols and services provided to parliamentary guests and delegations visiting the two councils.
Draft laws
Additionally, the two offices stressed the importance of inviting the counterpart committees in both councils when hosting specialists in the field work of those committees or during the discussion of draft laws.
They discussed the possibility of benefiting from abroad lecturers at the Training Centre in the Council of Oman in a bid to enhance its role in implementation of training and rehabilitation programs for the members of both councils, in addition to the development of skills and the development of the capacities of human resources at both councils.
The two offices also approved minutes of the first meeting between them held on Monday, 22nd May 2016.
