Omani women’s achievements during HM’s reign discussed

Muscat: Dr. Sa’aud bint Mohammed Suleiman Al Lawatiyah, Deputy Chairperson of the State Council yesterday received Rosemary McCarney, Canada Ambassador and Permanent Representative to United Nations and an activist in human rights, economic development, NGOs, woman, maternity and childhood issues.
During the meeting, the State Council Deputy Chairperson reviewed the social and political achievements made by the Omani woman under the royal care of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
She pointed out that His Majesty the Sultan has allocated October 17 each year as the Omani Women’s Day, to empower them in the different scientific and practical fields.
The Deputy Chairperson of the State Council She also gave an overview of the State Council and its role in supporting the institutions of the Sultanate by practicing its legislative and oversight roles.
The meeting covered a number of other issues of mutual interest and means of enhancing bilateral relations. The Canadian official expressed her delight on visiting the Sultanate and reviewed the progress made by the Sultanate in various fields.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Nashi’a bint Saud Al Kharousiyah, member of the State Council Office.
