Muscat: With the New Year just kicking in, citizens and residents across the Sultanate have shared their agenda for the new decade, 2020.
For some, the New Year will be about focusing on health and fitness, while some are planning to brighten others’ lives. “I am looking forward to focusing on staying healthier, and to be surrounded by more positive and driven people,” Shivani Singh, an Indian resident based in Muscat said.
“2020 - the first year of the new decade - stares at me as a well-rounded and perfectly complete number. It calls for a period rich in accomplishments and resolutions. Until I figure out my realisable challenge for this year, I’ve decided to focus on kindness. No matter how fast days may run, there’s always enough time to make someone smile,” says Nataly Cazacova, a Moldovian citizen.
“This year I am planning to strictly focus on myself, adopt a healthy lifestyle and get more involved in volunteer work. I really want to be a part of something big in my life and I feel that working for a cause that could change someone’s life in anyway would be one of the most rewarding things for me that I will cherish for life,” Mia Al Habsi, an Omani citizen said.
Eunice, a Filipino based in Muscat had a completely different yet a positive message for everyone out there. “Here’s to a new year, a new decade with a lot of heart. I wish this not only for myself but for everyone. Here’s to a year of doing more of what we love and what makes us happy- truly, madly and deeply. Here’s to being there and giving our best to people who matter to us and who we matter to. Thank you for all the lessons 2019, hello 2020! We’re ready for you,” she said.
For a Kiwi national, who has been residing in Oman for over a decade, the New Year is all about adventure and fun. “This year I have decided to experience more incredible road trips and adventures, and to introduce and welcome more individuals and families to join me in exploring the wonders of Oman,” Rebecca said.

Some are planning to keep 2020 as an open book with a positive attitude towards life.
“I honestly haven’t thought about my expectations from this year as 2019 gave me beyond I could have had imagined and that’s what I loved the most – the element of surprise and being grateful for what comes your way. However, I wish the world becomes a better place for all God’s creation to live in peacefully,” Tehmina Khan, a Pakistani citizen said.
“Every day is a new day, every week is a new week and every year is a new year. I look forward to this day as the first blank page of the 365 page book waiting to be filled. And I’m going to try and make it a good one. Being a medical student, I hope this year is going to be more peaceful around the world with everyone sharing more love, peace and harmony. And personally from my side, I am going to try and advocate for it,” Adeeti Srivastava, an Indian national, said.
In addition to that, there are also those who are wishing for time to travel a bit slower than last year. “I am expecting 2020 to travel a bit slower because 2019 felt like it went by in the blink of an eye. Seriously, I still can’t comprehend that we are in a new decade!” Faisal Al Balushi, a local national said.
“Is it 2020 already? Where did the time go? It feels just like yesterday when we entered in 2019 and today we are in 2020 – a new decade! I really want time to pause for some time so that I could grasp the fact that we are in a new age,” Aytekin, an Azerbaijani based in Muscat said.
