Oman has more than twice as many female students in public schools than males

Muscat: There were more than double the number of female students enrolled from grades 5 to 11 in public schools in Oman, as compared to male students, during the previous academic year.

Moreover, the number of female graduates from higher educations in 2017/2018 was about one-and-half times the number of male graduates, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

There were 335,293 students enrolled in the Sultanate’s public schools from grades 5 to 11 for the academic year 2018/2019, of which only 28 percent were males, and just two percent were non-Omani i.e. expatriates. The remaining 70 percent of them were female.

In addition, the NCSI reported that of the 28,419 Omanis who graduated from higher education institutions for the year 2017/2018, 61 percent were female, and only 39 percent were male. Of these, 88 percent completed their graduation inside the Sultanate, and the remaining 12 percent graduated overseas.
