Muscat: A WhatsApp number was behind opening a Saturday market, as well as a public park in Sur.
Sur Municipality has responded to some 100 complaints and suggestions this year through its account on WhatsApp, the popular messaging app.
During 2016, the municipality received 97 notes on its WhatsApp account ‘Problems and solutions’, which is dedicated to solving issues facing people in the eastern wilayat.
Of the total messages received, 34 regarded health issues. An official at the municipality said they have responded to all of the complaints and sought to resolve issues brought to their attention.
Moreover, 52 messages were technical complaints and
suggestions.
Following the public’s calls, the municipality is also modifying the women’s market in the wilayat. Only one complaint was sent to the Whatsapp number regarding water issues, while 11 notes were directed to its awareness department.
Khamis Al Sa’di, Assistant Director of the municipality, told the Times of Oman earlier this year that “Sur municipality teams respond immediately to the messages,” adding that this initiative is seen as a link between the municipal authorities and area
residents.
