Major integrated cement plant to be set up in Duqm

Muscat: As part of its national role to support the rapid growth in the economy, Oman Cement Company is in the process of setting up an integrated state-of-the-art cement and clinker plant with a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes of clinker per day through its subsidiary Al Sahwa Cement Company in Duqm.
The project implementation will be carried out simultaneously for various phases of the integrated plant and a grinding unit will be the first to commence production. The grinding unit will deliver high-quality cement which shall contribute in a big way, in meeting the cement demand in Duqm.
Oman Cement Company has appointed a leading international consulting firm as engineering consultant for the project. Also, the company will issue a tender to appoint an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contractor for the project before the end of this month. Notably, this project shall contribute to achieving self-sufficiency of cement product considering that the Sultanate is a net importer of cement to meet local demand.
As the Sultanate accelerates its efforts towards a more diversified income-based economy and expands its horizons to make Oman as one of the best international destinations for investment, Duqm (SEZAD) has been paid a significant emphasis to play a great role as, 'the new form of industrial and commercial centre' regionally and internationally. Undoubtedly, the government has sought to demonstrate efficient marketing for SEZAD to trigger an increase in attracting and retaining foreign investments which are essential components of the national development strategy. SEZAD has witnessed a remarkable development through the mega-projects which have been growing rapidly at the heart of the zone.
