Muscat: Preparations are complete for the holidng of second municipal council elections at different centres in the Sultanate today.
Sayyid Hamood bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior visited election centres in the Governorates of Musandam and Al Buraimi yesterday to oversee the preparations for the elections.
Sayyid Hamood inspected the election centre at Al Nasr Basic Education School in the wilayat of Madha, Musandam Governorate. In the Governorate of Al Buraimi, Sayyid Hamood visited the elections centre at Al Sinaina Basic Education School in the wilayat of Al Sinaina.
During the visits, he met with the governors and walis, chairpersons of the elections committees. Sayyid Hamood was accompanied by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior who is the chairman of the Main Elections Committee (MEC) and a number of MEC members.
Voting will take place from 7am to 7 pm and all results are expected by 10pm. Results will be available on the election website and the mobile app. In all, 107 election centres are ready to receive the voters to elect 202 members for 11 municipal councils. There are 731 candidates, including 23 women, in the fray.
Meanwhile, the main committee of the elections held a meeting at the Ministry of Interior under chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The meeting discussed several topics listed on the agenda, including the ongoing preparations for the voting day.
