Muscat: Total population of the Sultanate is 4,550,538, to be precise at the end of November 2016, marking a 0.3 per cent increase over September figures.
Omanis numbered over 2.46 million while expatriates stood at over 2.08 million, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics & Information.
Further, Omanis form 54.1 per cent of the total population of the Sultanate; while Omanis make up 34.7 per cent of the total population in the Governorate of Muscat.
The Governorate of Muscat holds the largest population at over 1.47 million, comprising 962,479 expatriates and 511,868 nationals, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batina with a population of 752,857, with expatriates and Omanis numbering 266,713 and 486,144 respectively.
The Governorate of Dhofar recorded a population of 454,714 (248,367 expats and 206,347 Omanis), while Musandam’s population reached 44,421 (16,883 expats and 27,538 nationals).Musandam is the least populated governorate of Oman.
Of the 113,087 people in the Governorate of Al Buraimi, 58,979 are expatriates while 54,108
are Omanis.
The population in the Governorate of Dhakhiliya stood at 454,806 (116,386 expats and 338,420 Omanis).The Governorate of South Al Batina recorded as many as 118,642 expatriates and 294,832 Omanis, taking the total population to 413,474.
The population of the Governorates of South and North A’Sharqiyah reached 308,807 and 277,441 respectively.
While the Governorate of South Sharqiyah showed 110,988 expatriates and 197,819 Omanis, the number of expatriates and Omanis in the Governorate of North Sharqiyah stood at 106,239, and 171,202 in order.
The 211,010-strong population in the Governorate of Dhahira is made up of 61,494 expatriates and 149,516 Omanis, while Al Wusta registered a population of 45,574, comprising 21,624 expatriates and 23,950 nationals, the NCSI bulletin states. — ONA
