Fishing thrives in Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali Wilayat

Ja'alan Bani Bu Ali: The fisheries sector in the Wilayat of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali in the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah is considered one of the most important and most promising economic sectors.
This is because it is one of the pillars of economic development in the Sultanate for its prominent role in providing job opportunities and one of the most important sources of income.
The coasts of the wilayat enjoy a strategic marine location in the Arabian Sea. The number of coastal villages is more than 22 villages, extending along the coastal strip of the Arabian Sea for a distance of more than 180km. These villages are among the most important marine sites for exporting high-quality fish. Most of the people of these villages work in the fishing sector as an inherited profession and their livelihood, as well as other professions associated with fisheries.
Salim bin Sultan Al Araimi, director of the Fish Development Department in the Wilayat of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali said: “The department does a lot of work, including issuing and renewing all fishing licenses, collecting statistical data related to fishing and export operations, intensifying guidance and awareness programs for fishermen, and facilitating other services related to fisheries, in addition to supervising the services of more than 5,591 fishermen, 2,846 fishing boats, 199 fishing ships and 670 licenses for fish carriers. ”
He told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is making a great effort to develop and qualify this vital sector with important projects, in addition to supporting it for the production and export of fish of all kinds, which contributed to providing many commercial opportunities for members of the local community.
The Ministry was keen that the employees in this sector should be Omanis only, as it provided them with the necessary support by providing boats, engines and various fishing equipment to keep pace with the development and progress in this sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has also established many harbors and piers to serve fishermen and employees in the fish sector. It encouraged the establishment of private fish companies and factories and contributed to their support, which resulted in increasing the economic return of this sector to the income of individuals and employees.
The director of the Fish Development Department in the Wilayat of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali added:” The wilaya has more than 30 fish facilities distributed over the coastal areas and the center of the wilayat.
The fishing port at the Niyabat of Al Ashkharah is considered one of the most important fishing harbors in the Sultanate. It contributes to the development of the fisheries sector in the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah. It also facilitates the movement of ships and boats coming to fish in fixed piers with ease. It also helps to refuel, transport supplies and ice and what is necessary for hunting trips.
The importance of the fishing harbour also lies in attracting investments and developing the economic activities. It helps to maintain the quality control of fish by keeping them in the designated fish boxes.
