Expat gets five-year jail, hefty fine for molesting school girls in Oman

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested an expat worker over the alleged molestation of two school girls following complaints from their parents.

According to sources, upon his arrest, the Court of First Instance sentenced the man to five-years in prison and fined OMR 5,000 on charges of molesting children and displaying objectionable material. He will also be deported after serving his imprisonment, the court ordered.

The incident first came to light when ROP received a complaint from a parent over the alleged sexual harassment by the man who worked as a cleaner in the school. “He showed the students objectionable material through his mobile phone. The parents demanded to take legal action against the accused worker. The students are in the foundation stage,” the source said.

“The second student's parent complained that his child narrated the shocking incident to the family following which they raised the complaint with the school management,” the source added.

After thorough investigations, the accused was immediately arrested. He admitted to the crime to the police officers. According to ROP, the accused worked in the school on a temporary contract. “His residence card has expired since January 2017. An absconding notice was issued against him by his sponsor,” ROP said. The court also fined the employer with a fine of OMR 500 for violating the labour law.
