Leader Uganda beats Italy, Kenya sinks Jersey

Muscat: Bilal Hassun’s 5 for 27 against Italy powered unbeaten Uganda to yet another win, this time over Italy, in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B at Oman Cricket’s grassy ground in Amerat on Monday.

Earlier, Hong Kong vs Italy and Bermuda vs Kenya matches on Sunday, December 8 were washed out due to rain. Uganda now sits strong on top with 8 points from 4 games followed by Hong Kong with 5 points from 3 matches.

Hassun’s superb spell hit Italy hard as it fancied its chances of a probable win chasing a modest target after dismissing Uganda for 218. Dinesh Nakarani lent him great support, taking 3 for 38.

Shahzad Ukani topscored for Uganda with 78 off 88 balls whereas Ronak Patel contributed 52. Bareth Berg and Nikolai Smith bowled extremely well, taking four wickets each for Italy.

Brief scores: Uganda 218 all out in 48.3 overs (Shahzad Ukani 78 – 10x4, 1x6, Ronak Patel 52 – 5x4. Gareth Berg 4-25, Nikolai Smith 4-44) defeated Italy 180 all out in 46.4 overs (Gian Meade 43 – 3x4, 1x6, Michael Ross 32 – 3x4, Rakibul Hasan 29 –1x4. Bilal Hassun 5-27, Dinesh Nakarani 3-38) by 38 runs.

In the day’s other game, Kenya jumped to third on team standings with a solid 7-wicket victory against Jersey thanks to a magnificent 195-run unbroken 4th wicket partnership between Rakep Patel (101 not out) and Rushab Patel (99 not out).

Kenya and Italy have 3 points each from four games but the former is currently one spot higher on the points table due to better net run rate.
Jersey posted 233 for 5 on the board, Corey Bisson (58 not out), Harrison Carlyon (46) and Dominic Blampied (43 not out) being its main scorers. Shem Ngoche was the pick of Kenyan bowlers, taking 3 for 24.

Struggling at 44 for 3 in 11 overs, Kenya bounced back in great style with a massive fourth wicket partnership, scoring 239 for 3 to seal a comfortable 7-wicket win in the 47th over.
