Oman weather: Low pressure to cause isolated rains

MUSCAT: People across Oman need to be careful if they venture out over the next few days, as rains are predicted all over the country.
A low-pressure trough is expected to bring plenty of rainfall across the country on Sunday and Monday, although it is likely to be concentrated in the northern areas of the Sultanate.
Some areas experienced rain due to the weather condition on Saturday as well.
“We will see rain over all the governorates,” said an official from the Directorate General of Meteorology at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). “It will start in Musandam, but it is expected to affect all of the other northern governorates, namely Batinah, Buraimi, Muscat, Dakhiliyah, Sharqiyah and Dhahirah. There will also be some rains over the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
“It is expected to be the same on Sunday as well, but on Monday, there is likely to be less chance of rain in the south. It will still be concentrated in the northern areas,” the official added.
“The rain is mostly expected to be moderate, but there are times when it can be heavy. In addition, there will be moderately high tide in the sea.”
The Sultanate will be affected by a trough of low pressure until December 10 with isolated rains associated with hail, winds and flash floods over many governorates of Oman.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said: “The weather will be partly cloudy with chances of isolated rain, occasional thundershowers associated with fresh winds, hail and flash floods over the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar.”
Meanwhile, PACA said tropical storm Pawan was expected to weaken during the next 48 hours. “It is now moving towards the Somalia coasts with gradual weakening during the next 48 hours with the advection of clouds over the Governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta and no direct impact over the Sultanate’s coasts,” PACA added.
